Lenovo launched today the ThinkPad X200 ultraportable notebook, featuring a 12.1-inch display, Intel’s Centrino 2 “Montevina” mobile platform, an extended battery life “up to 9.8 hours”, and a starting weight of 2.95 pounds.
Lenovo’s ThinkPad X200 utilizes the latest Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 or P8600 45-nanometer processors, clocked at 2.26GHz, and 2.40GHz respectively. Other core components include Intel X4500 HD integrated graphics, up to 4GB of DDR3 memory, and up to 320GB hard drive or a 64GB solid state drive. The laptop does not have a built-in optical drive. For DVD / CD reading and burning and Blu-Ray playback, the X200 uses a separate docking station - the X200 Ultrabase. The widescreen display of the X200 has a resolution of 1280×800 pixels.
Regarding connectivity features, the Centrino 2-powered ultraportable sports the latest Intel WiFi Link 5000 wireless modules supporting 802.11 draft n standard, as well as Gigabit Ethernet connection, an optionally integrated mobile broadband module with GPS, and Bluetooth option. A specifications sheet of the product says the WimAX and Intel UltraWide band (UWb) options will be available later in 2008.
Other features in the ThinkPad X200 include a magnesium-alloy top and bottom cover, full size keyboard with palm rest, TrackPoint pointing device, integrated web camera option, 3 USB ports, an ExpressCard slot, VGA output, and security lock slot, as well as choice of 5-1 media card reader with modem or 3-1 media card reader and no modem for weight optimized system.
Lenovo provides three battery options for the X200: 4-cell, 6-cell, and 9-cell units.

For enhanced security, there are an optional full disk encryption (fde), optional fingerprint reader, 32-byte pre-boot authentication, option to disable all the input and output ports, and integrated Trusted Platform module (TPM) 1.2.
The notebook is offered with Windows Vista OS, according to the specifications.
Lenovo’s ThinkPad X200, which replaces the X61 series, starts at $1,434 at PC maker’s online store . Customers can also purchase the new Centrino 2-based SL, R400/R500, T400/T500, and W ThinkPad series.
Earlier reports indicate the company will also unveil an X200 version with low-voltage CPUs, and a Tablet PC model.
