Review: ASUS N50V

[asus-n50v.jpg]

We remember when Asus' notebooks looked like they were planned by 5-year-olds with broken down crayons. The G2P gaming notebook was hideous. Fortunately the firm's got its act in concert and begun to whip out gorgeous notebook after stunning notebook. Its most recent stunner is the N50V -- a desktop replacement intended to handle all approach of hi-def content even though pricing and make public dates are yet to be definite. We'd gamble it will be out before the closing stages of the year.

Design

We've expressed it before, and we'll articulate it again -- the N50V is a nice-looking mechanism. The lid has fragile curved edges and a dark chocolate terminate that almost emerges purple in some lighting stipulations. Look intimately and you'll see dozens of vertical spotted lines that are evocative of the scrolling green code from the Matrix movies.

Performance

The N50V is a Centrino 2 notebook with a concrete core design. It comes with a Core 2 Duo T9400 with a core rate of recurrence of 2.53GHz, plus 4GB of RAM, and an NVidia Geforce 9650M GT graphics accelerator card and hence it's a very competent all-round machine.

The 320GB hard drive is reasonably middle-of-the-road by desktop PC norms, and even by notebook norms, Asus' M70 managed to transport with a 1TB drive, but this should only have an effect on pirate’s unrelenting file-sharers. Most notable, however, is the addition of a Blu-ray drive. With this, you'll be proficient to watch high-definition movies on the notebook, or on a large, exterior display.

Our mock-up of the N50V came with no operating system at all, but concluding accounts are predictable to ship with an edition of Windows Vista. The N50V has a fat, 15.4-inch exhibit, but we're not influenced by it. First of all, it's lustrous, so it's needlessly reflective, and poorer still, its vertical viewing angle is extremely limited. We had to slope it to a 145-degree angle, as far as it'll go, in order to acquire an even picture.

Overall

The N50V is a grand-looking, well-planted notebook. It's not ideal by any means, the storage space is restricted and the screen has issues, so the Asus M70 may be a superior bet. But if you desire a stylish desktop replacement with abundance of power and features, it's worth a glance.

Pros

+ Grand design
+ Speedy CPU and loads of memory

Cons

- Only 3 USB ports;
- Lustrous terminate gets filthy without difficulty

    Review: Asus Lamborghini VX2

The good: Solid construction; leather detailing; cool branded extras.

The badThe bad: Kind of slow for a laptop named after a race car; expensive; poor battery life.

The bottom lineThe bottom line: The Asus Lamborghini VX3 is the laptop recast as status symbol. It looks and feels like a luxury item; we just wish it had a bit more power under the hood.

    Specifications: Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo (2.5 GHz); RAM installed: 4 GB DDR2 SDRAM; Weight: 3.7 lbs;

    Introduction
Asus started with their Lamborghini models 6 months ago and VX2s is the third version of this series. From the outside this machine looks same as the VX1s, but under the hood a lot of things have changed. What’s new in this version is Intel’s update with new processor, chipset, network card and Intel Turbo Memory.
The graphic card comes from Nvidia with DirectX10 support. Geforce8600M GT with 512 MB memory gives this PC very good graphics.

    Design

You can choose between a yellow and a hot carbon fiber pattern look on this laptop. This machine is very solid no matter how you look at it, they keyboard is very good and have a quiet clicking sound. The mouse pad got a little bit strange shape its wide on the top, but gets smaller the further you go down. Asus also placed some shortcut buttons above the keyboard. These are for activation and deactivation of the wireless network, bluetooth, and intern mouse. You can also find a button for media and power saving properties. With this machine you also get a rotating webcam on 1,3 MP and a inbuilt microphone.

    Screen

The screen is very blank and shiny, and got a nice resolution of 1680x1050. The brightness and the contrast is very good, I really like this screen. The fan makes a lot of noise, but even the computer working hard or its in standby mode it don’t make any more or noise .

    Performance
The model is not so much different compared to the older version in the Lamborghini series. The new CPU from Intel and the good graphic card are the two biggest updates. This version uses a Geforce 8600M-GT, the old version only got a Geforce Go 7700. Even though this version got a Geforce 8600M-GT it does not score much higher points on the different 3dmark tests, but remember this card supports DirectX10, something Geforce Go 7700 don’t. When we tried Doom 3 on this machine we had around 94 FPS, and on 3dmark 2006 we got 3207 in score.
We managed to watch DVD movies for 3 whole hours before the battery’s was dead, this should be enough for most movies.

    Pros
+ A lot of connection facilities
    + High quality screen
    + Good performance
    + A lot of accessories

    Cons
    -Expensive
-The graphic could have been little bit better
    - This laptop should have supported Blu-ray or HD DVD
    - Very noisy fan

    Conclusion

Considering all the features you get for the price, which is affordable at around $1,500, it is hard to pass up on the Asus R1F. It features good performance with its Core Duo processor and ample storage with up to a 120GB hard drive. It's not too heavy or too big to take on trips or hold while standing for awhile. If you use the Splendid Video Technology movies look great, despite some graininess due to the Wacom screen layer. The plastic housing is a little cheap feeling, but the R1F is still durable. The plastic housing helps keep the cost and weight down as well. I enjoyed the R1F in both notebook and Tablet mode, nothing beats writing on the screen especially when you are in a hurry. The screen can double as one big post-it-note and the R1F definitely helped keep me organized.

    Pros

    • It is affordable, for all the features
    • Great packaging and accessories included
    • Love the Core 2 Duo processor
    • Good display
    • Hot swappable ODD/ Super Multi Optical Drive

    Cons

    • Plastic pen gets scratched in silo
    • The battery doesn't last as long as smaller Tablets.
    • The plastic housing makes it feel cheap
