Review: Asus G70

The Asus G70 17-inch gaming laptop - the model G70S-X1 - is now available for preorder in the United States through Best Buy.


The Asus G70S-X1 is based on Intel Centrino “Santa Rosa Refresh” platform, and includes the Core 2 Duo T8100 processor at 2.1GHz and dual NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT graphics cards in SLI mode with a total of 1GB of dedicated DDR3 video memory. The notebook sports 4GB of DDR2 RAM, a 400GB hard drive at 7,200rpm, and a DVD burner.


Laptop’s 17.1″ display has a resolution of 1440-by-900 pixels.


The G70S-X1 also features four built-in Altec Lansing speakers with Dolby Home Theater technology, a built-in 2MP web camera, HDMI output, Intel’s PRO/Wireless 4965AGN network connection (802.11a/b/g/n), Gigabit Ethernet LAN, a 56k modem, four USB ports, 5-in-1 media card reader, and Firewire port.

The offered G70 model Weighs 10.5 pounds and features hexagonal and aluminum effect textures, an interactive LED light system, color-coded keys for gaming, and small LED display that lets you receive notification of instant messages or e-mails during games.


The Asus G70S-X1 runs Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition 64-bit operating system and costs $2,099.99. Estimated arrival time is 8/12-8/25/2008.
