Review: HP EliteBook 8730w

The new mobile computer workstation from HP comes with the DreamColor display technology for improved color reproduction.

“Mobility is becoming increasingly important to our most demanding, power-user customers,” said Stephen Dewitt, senior vice president, Personal Systems Group – Americas, HP. “HP is delivering on creative professionals’ most exacting computing needs by enabling power users to take their highly tuned graphics workstations with them wherever they go.”

Designed especially for creative professionals, the new model is optimized for complex graphic-intensive applications, coming with a 17-inch display of 16 million colors. Powered by an Intel Quad-Core processor and integrating 8GB memory, together with the Nvidia Quadro FX graphic card, the mobile computer workstation provides 1GB dedicated video memory and support for animation, video production as well as broadcasting and engineering.

Powerful on the inside, the HP EliteBook 8730w has a durable housing with brushed anodized aluminum external layer and magnesium alloy chassis.

The Intel Quad Core technology is based on 4 cores in a single processor and designed for high=performance intensive graphic applications including complex imaging and video games. Raising the number of cores, Intel offers higher energy-efficiency levels, increased performance, via the parallel processing architecture and the hafnium-based 45nm technology. This is accomplished by enabling each core to operate at lower frequencies dividing power.
Intel Wide Dynamic Execution allows multiple numbers of tasks to be performed in shorter time, while the Intel Intelligent Power Capability helps in increasing the battery life. Intel Smart Memory Access manages the use of data’s bandwidth, and the Intel Advanced Digital Media Boost practically boosts applications like video, speech, image, picture processing, encryption, engineering and scientific applications.

HP’s most powerful mobile computer workstation is characterized by dual link DVI, full-size keyboard with HP DuraKeys, optional Blu-ray drive, HDMI port, built-in 2MP camera, Microsoft Windows Vista pre-installed, a 3.06GHz processor, support for Intel Centrino 2 with vPro, up to 320GB HDD storage, high definition audio, and several high-end security layers including the Trusted Platform Module.

The notebook measures 1.3 x 15.5 x 11.1 inches at 7.6lb.
HP will make it available later this month at a price of $1,699, and in addition to this model, the company is also preparing the releasing of other professional notebook models and displays.
