PC Microworks
now offers the new Edge 15.4-inch gaming laptop, featuring the quad core Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9300 processor option, Intel’s Centrino 2 mobile technology, and the NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GT video card.

The estimated ship date for an Edge configuration with the QX9300 (2.53GHz/1066MHz/12MB) is August 15. When configured with the Intel Core 2 Duo P9500, T9600, or Core 2 Extreme X9100, the laptop ships immediately. The quad core CPU choice adds $780 to the overall notebook price, when compared to the basic P9500 processor option.

Other components of the PC Microworks Edge include the GeForce 9800M GT GPU with 512MB of video RAM, up to 8GB of DDR3 memory at 1333MHz, up to 320GB of hard drive storage or up to 128GB solid state drive, as well as a DVD burner, Blu-Ray burner or HD DVD burner.

Display resolution choices are 1680-by-1050 pixels (glossy) and 1920-by-1200 (glossy or mate).

The Edge features stereo speakers, optional TV tuner, a 2MP web camera, 802.11a/b/g wireless connection with an upgrade option to 802.11n, Gigabit Ethernet LAN, optional Bluetooth, and a 56k modem. In addition, the laptop is expected to have an integrated WiMAX 802.16e module option.

There are also HDMI and DVI outputs, a SPDIF digital sound output, four USB ports, an ExpressCard slot, 7-in-1 media card reader, eSATA port, and Firewire.

With an 8-cell battery for up to 2 hours of run time, the PC Microworks’ Edge weighs approximately 6.5 pounds.

Operating system options include Windows XP Professional and Windows Vista 64-bit, which is required if you want to utilize more than 3GB of RAM.

The laptop starts at $2,634, but the price can go over $7,000 for a configuration with higher-end components.
